This blog has come about all the advice I have given friends and family over the years and what better way to share and extend the love other than through the World Wide Web. This blog is aimed at end users of computers, gadgets, software, everything geeky and everything not! If you are an IT Pro with an interest in Microsoft Server Technologies you can subscribe to my other blog; http://sharepointgeorge.com which discusses my everyday experiences on SharePoint, Exchange and most things Microsoft.
Okay, back to socialtechgeek.com. First and foremost my aim is to introduce web 2.0 technologies to the home user. We have all heard about the new buzz word “Social Media” right? hmmm I hear you say. Well, I am hoping that most of you out there have a Facebook account? YES! Well you have already been exposed to Social Media via Facebook and Social Networking. Social Media extends beyond Facebook and over the upcoming articles I will introduce some of the differing web 2.0 social media technologies that we are faced with on a day to day basis and how we can utilise some of these in our day to day to lives.
Enough on social media for now, this blog will also bring about common day to day issues that home computer users are faced with whether you are still using Windows XP or braved Windows Vista and its shortcomings or are about to (or have already) embraced Vista’s successor Windows 7! I have been fortunate enough to have been running Windows 7 since its early beta days and just recently installed the final release version on my home PC. All I can say for now is that Windows 7 is a breath of fresh air and you will be surprised on how well it will outperform Vista even on hardware that is 2-3 years old. A lot of my blogging will hence focus around Windows 7 and its features and how you can benefit from the new operating system.
It doesn’t end there, for those who know me well, I have recently jumped on the band wagon and over the last 12 months have acquired an iPhone 3G when it was first released and an Aluminium MAC Book with a 24”LED screen. It’s quite a nifty setup if I say so myself, so for all the Apple fans out there, socialtechgeek.com will be sure to cover some of your needs.
Okay, I think that’s enough of a welcome and be sure to say hi! I encourage collaboration by placing comments on my posts and I will be sure to answer your queries in a timely manner. Remember, web 2.0 is all about connecting people with information and information seekers with information repositories so if you have a tip or a comment that you would like to add regarding a specific post, please ensure you do so in order for all readers to benefit.
Take care for now
